Catania, part 2

Luckily Jim read somewhere that there was a Saturday market in Catania, and as luck would have it, it was just around the corner from our hotel. We turned down the street and there were all the umbrellas, beckoning us! My heart beat a little faster at the sight of this, as I knew it was going to be a good one. I like all markets, but they vary widely, like some we saw in Turkey where they had ten different fruits and vegetables, and sold lots of baggy pants, but this one in Catania was one of the best I have seen anywhere in Italy. Ok, I know you're thinking, stop writing, and show some photos!
First up were the purple cauliflower as big as my head!
This zucchini was even prettier in person.
I think she knew I was taking her picture along with the kiwis and strange( to me) yellow fruits. I feel like I may have eaten these somewhere and I'm sorry that I didn't try them again.
Mounds and mounds of wonderful strawberries...and see that price? They are 2.50€ for two pounds!
Many varieties of tomatoes...
And if you need to rest your eyes from all that color, some lovely mushrooms, that would be delicious marinated.
No, we didn't even buy cheese as we already had some.
I love the idea of cheese with a lemon in the center!
Ah, the seafood- so, so fresh!
We only bought a small basket of these-50 cents! I strongly hinted about buying a flat for under $5 but we couldn't figure out what to do with them all in 2 days. Make roadside jam?

I also had to try these colorful purple olives. I good size bag cost $1 and they are deliciously spicy.
Remember, these prices are all for 2# of anything- so, so inexpensive. Of course you don't have to buy 2#.
And this is a classic sight in Sicily- the artichoke truck! They trim them up nicely, leaving long stems. I bought 5 for 5€ and as I mentioned, you can buy a crate of 'em for that price!
We were sorry that we weren't somewhere where we could cook, and I told Jim I think I could live in Sicily!
