Things look different here!

IWhile we could have happily stayed in Croatia a few days longer, we had made the decision to try to make it as far north as Ljubljana and Lake Bled in Slovenia. We had planned to see some of Slovenia on our last trip 10 years ago, but due to a scheduling conflict, had to skip it in order to hot foot it to Switzerland. On that trip, Jim and Sean, who was about 14 at the time, made an effort to play catch in every new country. He fondly remembered the town square in Postojna where they got  out to play catch before heading North to Switzerland, in spite of the rain.

We had to miss the cave tour again this time, but we did stop for lunch, and on the recommendation of the tourist office guy, went to his favorite restaurant for a burger and chips.
I had the gnocchi with wild mushroom sauce
Both were very good.
Then we stopped in Ljubljana for coffee in the sunshine and enjoyed  soaking up the atmosphere of a university town.
I was pleased to get a cup with a map of Columbia on it, where our favorite Katy is heading at the end of this week!

This was so different than any place we had been so far and it was somewhat refreshing to see public art and half the city zipping around on bikes. I found not one, but two art supply stores, and in one observed orange, red and purple dyed hair. Dorothy, we're not in Kanas anymore!
Can you imagine that this was formerly a bank building? Everything looked different here.
Lots of big, stately looking buildings.

Matt had been here before us and tipped us off to Metalkova, which was one of our favorite places to see. It is a haven of art , galleries and cafés for the alternative art scene, with interesting views around every corner.

Mosaics

And my favorite, spray painted stencil art.

So glad Matt told us about this place because we probably would have missed it on our own .
We had a whirlwind tour of Ljubljana but we saw enough to know that we'd like to return.
We still had a ways to go before we arrived at
Lake Bled, our final destination for the night, but that will be part two.
