It is hard to remember, and keep all of these little hamlets separate as often they look rather similar. After a couple of overcast days lately, I realize how fortunate we have been to have mostly sunny days, because the water just doesn't sparkle the same way on gray days.
We made our way up the coast from Split and realized it was time for a morning coffee. Since we were close to Trogir, we decided to stop there to check it out. It was a very cute little city with very expensive parking!
Another market where we bought some Pag cheese to go with our crackers.
This is a famous facade of the church that the townspeople built in thanks for being spared from the plague. That is a common story. I wonder how many edifices were built for this same reason during the Middle Ages?
As we passed by the central square, this group of musicians were singing harmoniously. Lovely and heartfelt.
These guys were good, too. Their music sounded vaguely reminiscent of Mariachi music, and similar to what we heard a bunch of drunk men singing from across the water in another small town. I like any kind of singing.
Up the road we went, and I finally got to take a stint at driving. This entire trip, Jim has done all of the driving, and it has been a LOT of miles. There are places I would not have wanted to drive- namely, Italy, but I was ok driving in a Croatia as they are generally much more cautious drivers. Occasionally you will see people passing on curves or other dangerous places like Italians- but maybe they ARE Italians! So my driving time was all of 15 or 20 minutes before we came upon a small town that we both wanted to see up close.
There were lots of benches in the churchyard, but nine facing out to sea. All of them faced the church.
I'm glad I went inside to light a candle, because I had a sweet image of the nun arranging the flowers with care. She contemplated where every stem should belong.
The roses in Croatia are spectacular- another reason I like this place! I saw one today that I am going to try to find for my own garden.
Another gorgeous view of town as we left, after picnicking on our remaining bread and chicken, with red bull as a chaser. Yes, really! We both realized we had never had a red bull so Jim bought one to go with our lunch. What a strange drink that is. Now we never have to try one again.
