More, more Myanmar

WeI can't leave Myanmar behind( although we already have) without more photos of our day of boating on Inle Lake. Our hotel desk clerk signed us up for a boat trip as soon as we arrived, as he probably knew if he didn't, someone else would! Men approached us on the street near the river frequently to ask if we wanted a boat trip, and it is always easier when you can say, " no thanks" or, " we went yesterday".
So at 7:15 am, our captain arrived at the hotel and we set off, trying to keep up with him as he led us down unfamiliar streets toward the river. It was a beehive of activity at that time of day.
I have never seen so many tomatoes!
They are used quite a lot in Shan cooking.
Families were coming and going, in boats laden with goods.
Our boat looked like this, but held just the two of us and our captain, who appeared to be all of 19.
It was a bit cool on the river at that time of day, but it felt refreshing.

We motored quite a way before we got to the lake itself, and soon we began seeing the famous fishermen who practice leg rowing.

Even though it is a bit blurry, I love this photo! The fishermen balance with one leg on the boat, and row with the other leg which is wrapped around a long oar, while holding their net. Quite a feat!
Other boats were variously gathering reeds from the lake bottom , or digging mud from the lakebed.
We passed several fancy floating hotels...
And passed under picturesque bridges on our way to visit the many artisans along the way( all part of the program!).
In looking back at this post, I realized it is quite monochromatic and dark... Next one will have more color, I promise!
