Breakfast in Asia

Before we leave Asia behind altogether, I wanted  to write a little post about our various breakfasts at hotels across Asia. It is often the case that breakfast would be included in the room rate, but sometimes it was extra, and sometimes not an option, but for a room and breakfast for under $50, that seems like a pretty good deal. Of course, the offerings varied quite a bit. From Kuala Lumpur to Mandalay, though,  you could probably always be assured that you could find one common breakfast item, and that would be toast and jam.
The jam was always the same, a reddish, vaguely strawberry tasting substance that was just sweet and the " butter" was the same too, though in no way did it resemble butter, or even margarine, for that matter. The toast was always white bread.
Then there was this breakfast on the overnight train from Bangkok that included various mystery meats. The juice was pretty standard, too. It was orange colored, and usually quite sweet. Best to avoid.
Sometimes at classier places there was a buffet with noodles or rice and some mysterious specialties, like this tasty green onion pancake.i like my eggs fried hard, but rarely found them served that way. There is nothing I dislike more than runny egg yolks...
The better places also served a variety of fruits which I always appreciate.
In Myanmar, at Golden Dream hotel, we were offered Shan noodles for breakfast and liked them enough to have them the next morning. They are Homemade noodles with minced chicken and peanuts. You could add your own chili sauce for extra flavor. This is a very traditional meal found throughout Myanmar.
For our last Asian breakfast, we asked to have breakfast at 7:30 before our morning flight. At 7:15 there was a knock on our door, and breakfast arrived on a tray! This was a first. Oh, and sometimes the " toast" is just a couple slices of un toasted white bread...
Are you almost ready to leave Asia? Then come along for the next adventure on the not so amazing race.
